Presidents Report 2010/2011
Hello again everyone and welcome to a very special season for us – our 40th Anniversary.
Yes it’s 40 years since our founding members played their first game and I am sure they are proud of what we have achieved since.
And what better way to open our Anniversary year than with a promotion to Midlands 4. We said last season that nothing less than automatic promotion was achievable and that’s exactly what the team and coaches have delivered. And on that subject a big thank you to both Bob and Dave for all the hard work they have put in over the years, we hope to see you both regularly at Tat Bank and now under more relaxed circumstances.
Thanks also to Richard Harrison as he steps down as first team skipper and good luck to Warley stalwart Andy Hallbrook as he moves into the hot seat. It’s been a long time coming Andy but as always I know you will lead from the front.
Good luck also to Carl McGrath for leading the 2nds forward off the back of an excellent 09/10 season with no less than two 60+ points wins and a victory over a virtually 1st XV Rugby St Leonards.
No season should pass of course without a mention of the ladies section who are now playing a major role in the running of the club. The girls had a very successful opening league season last year and are looking forward to 8 league matches again this year. Having spent some time last season on the touch line watching the matches, and in the light of England Ladies recent successes, I would recommend to anyone to come along on a Sunday afternoon and enjoy some spirited rugby and support our girls.
And now our youngsters and the next 40 years of Warley Rugby. Probably one of the greatest success stories so far has been the development of our youth section. Now we are beginning to see the fruits of our labour with the senior sides benefiting from a steady flow of top quality home grown talent. So well done to all the youngsters and the coaches and staff who give of their time so freely.
Behind the scenes our committee has been working hard to keep us on the straight and narrow and with the development plan still in place and a new training area planned for later this season the facilities at Tat Bank are improving by the day.
On behalf of us all I’d like to thank Paul Cox as he steps down after many years as our Treasurer. Paul has managed to balance the difficult task of being both a senior committee member and a player with great professionalism and we wish him well.
So there we are, hopefully the word has gone out and we will see many of the old hands at the Anniversary Dinner & Dance and during the course of the season. The Club moves forward but let’s not forget our history.
Here’s to the next 40 years!
