Presidents Report 2009/2010
Hello everyone and welcome to what promises to be a new and exciting season here at Warley Rugby Club.
I should begin though by adding my own tribute to those already made following the sad passing of Andy Boulton last season. Andy was a committed player and a great clubman who will be greatly missed but his legacy lives on at Warley in the shape of Scott and Adam the two sons that Andy and Lisa have brought to the Club. They are true Warley Boys and a credit to their Dad and I look forward to following their progress over the coming years.
Well we nearly did it last season but whilst promotion eluded us at the last moment I think we have come away stronger and more committed and focused as a playing unit.
Looking at our squad and this seasons fixtures I see no reason why our sole achievable aim should not be automatic promotion and nothing less.
To that end I’d like to thank the growing number of supporters who lined the pitch last season and as we are shortly to enter our 40th year in existence I would put out a call to as many old boys as possible to join us on a Saturday and lend their support to the players.
Warley Ladies hit the big time earlier this year sharing a TV slot with England and Worcester Ladies teams – not bad company for the girls from Tat Bank. The coming season sees our Ladies enter the North Mids Cluster League with 7 games and no doubt a celebratory end of season tour.
Unfortunately we had to call on the services of the County Air Ambulance on Presidents Day following a nasty injury to Wednesbury’s Mark Hughes. I met up with Mark a few weeks ago and am pleased to say he has made a remarkable recovery. Our thanks to the Air Ambulance and by way of a thank you we have nominated them as our preferred charity this year so please give generously folks!
Finally I would like to reflect on what has been for me one of the more pleasant tasks I have been asked to perform as President and that was this year’s presentation of awards to the Mini and Junior Sections. It was such a pleasure to see these youngsters enjoying their rugby so much and how proud they all were to be wearing the Warley badge. I hope that I got the message through to them that we are nothing without a future and that they are the future of Warley Rugby Club.
So as seniors we owe it to them to give all the support and encouragement we can to ensure the future of this great Club.
Well that’s about it – have a great season, enjoy your rugby and I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
